The Form & Polish project is an interior design project with a strong contemporary art influence, where the nail salon space is redefined as a “gallery” of shapes, light and aesthetic experiences. As a designer, I did not approach the nail salon in the familiar way of simple beauty spaces, but instead aimed to build a concept where every line, material and layout is expressive – both minimalist and sophisticated, both practical and rich in visual emotions.
The name Form & Polish is the guiding principle for the entire design concept. “Form” represents shape and structure – the way the space is organized in a reasonable and coherent proportion; the soft curves in the nail table, waiting chair or display cabinet system, creating a sense of rhythmic movement, suggesting femininity and aesthetics. Meanwhile, “Polish” not only refers to the act of caring for and beautifying nails but also implies the meticulousness and perfection in every design detail – from the streamlined materials, smooth surfaces to the carefully calibrated lighting system to create a gentle, warm and comfortable feeling for both customers and staff.
The salon space is divided into clear functional areas but linked by a unified design language: neutral colors (beige, ivory, warm gray) combined with metallic accents of gold or light copper; the main materials are wood veneer, terrazzo and frosted glass – all creating a harmonious background to highlight the products and nail care activities as “artistic rituals”. From the reception counter, the waiting area, to each nail station – every element is designed with the intention of enhancing the user experience, making them not only come to beautify, but also to “feel beauty”.
With the Form & Polish project, I wanted to express an interior design perspective where aesthetics come not only from the outside, but also from the intersection of function, emotion and art. This is not just a nail salon, but a living space – where every detail contributes to a complete aesthetic experience, while conveying the design thinking that I have always pursued: design is not just about creating beauty, but creating a space that can be felt with both senses and emotions.
